Violent fighting continues in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia, after the prime minister launched a military operation in response to what he described as attacks on government troops.
Tensions have been rising in the area since September, when Tigreay organized elections despite a central government order not to do so.
The government has said the results of the election are not legally recognized, and both sides have recently accused each other of plotting a military coup.
The prime minister's office, Abiy Ahmed, has claimed that Tigray militants - TPLF, tried to steal weapons from a military base in the area. The Tigray region has only 5 percent of Ethiopia's population of 110 million, and is richer than any other part of the country.
