The first group of people in Kenya have volunteered to take part in a UK-based corona vaccine trial.

It is part of a global effort to measure the effectiveness of the vaccine developed by Oxford University and pharmaceutical company, Astra-zeneca.

Fourteen volunteers, most of them health workers, are taking part in a vaccine trial against covid 19 in Kenya.

The first phase of the vaccine trial is led by the KEMRI-Welcome Trust research program, located in Kilifi.

One of the researchers at the center, Dr Samuel Sang, says they want to make sure the vaccine is safe for Kenyans.

"Immunizations that have been discovered to be successful and safe for some citizens, do not mean that they will be successful for all citizens of the world.

There was therefore a need to assess whether the vaccine is safe and appropriate for Kenyan volunteers, to ensure that Kenyans volunteer for the vaccine, and that the trial must be successful. ”

He said Dr. Sang According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are about 100 trials of 19 covid vaccines performed in humans in the first phase.
