Kipchoge is included in the final list of the best athlete in 2021

Two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge has been named among the final five athletes vying for the best athlete award this year.

Kipchoge was named after retaining the Olympic title in the marathon race in Tokyo Japan, leaving the silver medal winner with 1 minute and 20 seconds, the longest ever recorded in Olympic history, and also won the Enschede marathon.

Marathon for 2 hours 4 minutes and 30 seconds Kipchoge is aiming to win the award for the second and first time since 2019.

Also on the list of best men of the year is Wave Joshua Cheptegei who won the 5,000m Olympic gold this year and won 10,000 meters in Tokyo Japan and registered the world's fastest time of 8 minutes 9 seconds and 55 seconds in a two-mile race.

Ryan Crouser, from the USA who is an Olympic champion in the shot put and finished the year without defeat, Mondo Duplantis who is an Olympic pole vault champion and `Karsten Warholm, from the Olympic 400m steeplechase champion and breaking world records in 400 meters steeplechase.

Voting via social media closed on November 6, with the winner announced on December 1 in Monaco France.

The list of the final five women vying for the women's prize will be revealed on Tuesday evening where the two-time Olympic champion in the 1500 meters Faith Kipyegon is expected to be included.
