The announcement by the Amani National Congress (ANC) party that it would introduce its Presidential candidate on January 23, 2022 has dealt a huge blow to Deputy President William Ruto.
The ANC Secretary-General, Simon Kamau, announced on Wednesday that Musalia Mudavadi would be the party's presidential flag bearer in the August 9th presidential election.
On whether Mudavadi would join DP Ruto, Kamau dismissed the rumors, stating that no conversations between the second-in-command and the ANC chief are taking place.
"Reports of Mudavadi's conversations with Ruto are mere conjecture during this season of coalition negotiations," Kamau added.
Ruto, on the other hand, has acknowledged to meeting with Mudavadi, most recently on Friday last week, when he said it was the ANC head who urged him to go to a soccer event in Mumias, Kakamega County.
"It was your boss Musalia Mudavadi who permitted me to come," he told Cleophas Malala, a Kakamega Senator and outspoken Mudavadi loyalist who organized the competition at the Mumias Sports Complex.
