Valentine Kipketer and Elisha Kiprop are the winners of the 18th edition of the Standard Chatered Nairobi Marathon organized early Sunday on Southern Bypass.

Valentine raced for 2 hours 30 minutes and 1 second, followed by Naomi Maiyo for 2 hours 32 minutes and 22 seconds, while Beatrice Cheptoo defeated Wave Rebecca Cheptegei and grabbed third place for 2 hours 32 minutes and 33 seconds.

Valentine has revealed that he was forced to take part in the Stanchart marathon after missing last week's Amsterdam marathon in the Netherlands.

Elisha Kiprop, who emerged victorious in 2018, has grabbed his second title, after facing stiff opposition from Alphonce Kigen and Joshua Kogo and cutting the ribbon in first place for 2 hours 11 minutes and 7 seconds, followed by Kigen for 2 hours 11 minutes and 11 seconds with Kogo taking third place for 2 hours 11 minutes and 14 seconds.

The 21-kilometer wheelchair race was won by Samuel Kuria who retained the 2019 crown, with a time of 1 hour 31 minutes and 9 seconds, followed by John Wambua 6 minutes later, while Milton Ilahuya secured third place for 1 hour 40 minutes. and 20 seconds.

Caroline Wanjira emerged victorious in the women's half-marathon for 2 hours 11 minutes and 58 seconds, followed by Rahel Akoth Alar for 2 hours 23 minutes and 5 seconds, while Eunice Atieno finished third for 2 hours 39 minutes and 10 seconds. .

The race started and ended at the Carnivore restaurant with the sports minister being among the people who attended the event.

The race returned on Sunday for the first time, after missing last year when it was postponed due to Covid 19 disease with 2500 athletes participating and more than 7,000 others participating online.
