In an effort to curb cybercrime and those who use social media to harass others, the government has launched a crackdown on law enforcement.
The National Comprehensive Comprehensive Committee on Computer and Cybercrime (NCA) will be tasked with coordinating steps to identify, investigate and prosecute cybercriminals.
Minister of National Security Dr. Fred Matiang’i said the committee would prioritize the misuse of social media which he described as a threat to national security and compatibility.
The minister, who launched the task force at the country's curriculum coordination institute, said there would be a crackdown on suspects, especially as we approach the general election.
"As we approach the general election, the biggest challenge is the misuse of social media," Matiang'i said.
The minister pointed out that the move to embrace technology has led to the rise of cybercrime while urging stakeholders in the law department as well as the Judiciary department to include networking training in their institutions.
"States around the world are investing heavily in cybercrime research," he said.
For his part, Information and Communication Technology Minister Joe Mucheru said the new law was important in supporting the digital economy and called for it to be fully implemented.

Secretary in the security ministry Dr Karanja Kibicho who is the chairperson of NC4, said the formation of the Committee will prevent insults and tarnishing the image of people through social media.
NC4 was created under the Comprehensive Computer and Cybercrime Act of 2018 to identify, investigate, prosecute and deal with computer misuse and cybercrime on time.
The committee includes representatives from the KDF security forces, the national police service, the NIS national intelligence department, the national security ministry, as well as representatives from the attorney general's office and the director of public prosecutions, the country's communications council. and central bank among others.
