The players were forced to flee the stadium when fans of the Hurucan Las Heras Club played against Ferro de General Pico in the state league.

Video footage showed players of both teams fleeing for refuge when shots were fired inside the stadium in Mendoza region where Ferro coach Mauricio Romero was injured and rushed to hospital for treatment.

"Romero is currently doing well and is not in danger," Ferro said in a statement on Twitter. After leaving the stadium, he was tested at a hospital and later reported to the police.

The match was called off later in the second half when they were leading 3-1 and Huracan criticized those involved in the incident. One football coach was shot in the shoulder during a third-tier match in Argentina on Sunday.
