The Kenya Film Commission (KFC) has announced that the nominees for this year's Kalasha Awards will be screened in the county.
According to a poster on KFC's Facebook page Nakuru County will be the first to show the films. The exhibition is scheduled to take place between 8pm and 2pm on November 12 and 13 November 2021 at the American Corner Hall at the Kenya National Library Service.
On November 3, 2021, the KFC Film Commission announced the 11th edition of the Kalasha Awards at a press conference at the Sarova Stanley Hotel.
The chairman of the Kalasha Awards nomination committee Valentine Zikki said this year they received a total of 706 applications, selecting five candidates in each category and leaving only 145 candidates.
The director general of the film commission Mr. Timothy Owase stressed that the commission is committed to ensuring that the Kalasha awards continue to recognize and reward local talent.
Kenyans can now vote for their favorite candidates after the candidates are announced. Voting begins today, November 3, 2021 and ends on December 3.
These Kenyan votes contribute 30 percent while the referees contribute 70 percent of the total vote.
The units that are open to the public to vote this year are;
a) Film Unit: this has sub-units such as best reality film, best short film, best female and male actor and best female and male supporting actor.
b) Television Unit: This unit covers programs that are broadcast on television and has sub-units such as best commercial, best acting, best comedy show and best television.
some are the best TV presenter, the best female actor and actress among others.
c) Special Unit: focuses on tasks that have been prepared by students.
