National light welterweight champion George Onyango will take on Fred Nyakesha on the 4th of next month, at the Nairobi Charter in a bid to defend the belt he grabbed three years ago.
The big fight, organized by Big Time Promotions, will be preceded by seven other non-title contests and approved by the KPBC boxing commission.
Nyakesha will aim to take revenge on Onyango after defeating him by a margin three years ago at the KICC international conference hall.
The 24-year-old Onyango started boxing at Umoja boxing club and has won 6 fights since he started boxing in 2017, two via Knock out and registered one draw and has not lost a fight, with Nyakesha winning 7, 1 through knockout and lost three times and drawn one fight since he started boxing paid in 2011.
"I am ready to fight Nyakesha again in three years and I know it will not be easy but it will be a fraternal fight I have no revenge on anyone" said Onyango
"I have grown up waiting for this opportunity, my opponent is good but I am also well prepared to face him" said Nyakesha
The president of the KPBC paid boxing commission Reuben Ndolo has promised boxing fans across the country more fighting in the country and urged more stakeholders to come forward to promote paid boxing.
"This is just the beginning and the KPBC committee will organize more fighting across the country and in order to achieve this I urge more donors to work hard to spread the game," said Ndolo.
According to David Mugambi, director of the Big Time Promotions boxing company, they will visit various counties in the country to organize a fight after December 4 at the Charter Hall.
"We want to organize a nationwide fight in partnership with our donors WaziBet, Sarova Hotels, Bison Energy Drink, Anthony Waithaka Foundation and Esen," said Mugambi.
Nyakesha will be back in action for the first time since June 8 last year when he signed a draw against Nicholas Mwangi, with Onyango returning for the first time since October last year.
Other non-title fights will see Daniel Oluoch wrestle Alvin Owino in an 8-round super welterweight bout, Nick Otieno wrestling Joshua Osotsi in a light round eight, Jane Kavulani wrestling and Consolata Mushangi a welterweight bout 6 round.
In the 6-round bout D model Onyango will take on Brian Ochola, with Calvin Okello and Albert Kimario competing in a 6-round featherweight bout.
