In a statement, police spokesman Bruno Shioso said intelligence officers had identified the situation in Kondele as a result of allegations of money laundering campaigns among some groups in the area.
"The Deputy President's delegation was informed by intelligence, suggesting that he not visit the area during his visit," said part of the police statement.
Shioso added that groups that did not benefit from the funds sparked violence during the Deputy President's meeting, causing damage to some nearby vehicles.

He said police immediately took action and dispersed the youths. The police spokesman confirmed that the Deputy President and his entourage had safely left Kondele and that no one had been injured in the blast.
A similar case arose in October in the western part of the country where five people were arrested and charged in court.
The Deputy President is on a three-day visit to the Nyanza area to seek support for his presidential bid during the next general election.
