Dennis Itumbi, the Digital Strategist for Deputy President William Ruto, has been released from the hospital.

Itumbi was taken to Nairobi West Hospital on Friday after being kidnapped and tortured by unidentified gunmen.

After spending a week in the hospital, the former State House operative was allowed to go and recuperate at home, according to Viral Kenyan Magazine.

On Saturday, Wanjohi Githae, the Director of Communications for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), acknowledged the new development.

"Wishing you all a happy New Year...

Dennis Itumbi has been released from the hospital, which I am happy to report. "All we can do is thank God," Githae remarked.

According to close friends of Itumbi's, the blogger was kidnapped by individuals posing as police officials.

Itumbi's coworkers informed authorities in a police report filed at Thindigua police station that the blogger was at a barbershop in Thindigua estate, Kiambu County, when he was grabbed by unknown males who loaded him into a car and rushed away at around 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 23.

He was later discovered nude on the side of the road in Kasarani's Lucky Summer district.

Itumbi suffered injuries to much of his body, including his limbs, and was discovered by a taxi driver, according to members of Parliament who support Ruto.

According to police spokesperson Bruno Shioso, they are investigating the incident to determine the purpose and people responsible.

Detectives have been waiting for Itumbi to recover before making a statement, despite the fact that Ruto and his allies say that the outspoken blogger was kidnapped by security agents looking to silence him over social media posts critical of key government officials.
