Justin Biden Muturi is the new leader of the Democratic Party of Kenya DP, following the resignation of Joseph Munyao, who led the party for 20 years.
The nomination of Muturi, who will also run for the presidency on the party's ticket, was approved at the party's national conference of members held at the Bomas of Kenya hall in Nairobi.
The meeting nominated Muturi as DP leader after Joseph Munyao resigned from the post.
Addressing party members, Muturi said his main agenda, if elected president, would be to curb the nightmare of corruption.
"We have spent a lot of resources and efforts to investigate, arrest, prosecute and seize stolen property, but that is not enough, we have to reduce corruption in order to have a meaningful impact on this war," said Muturi.
He said change would only happen if Kenyans elected leaders with high moral standards.
Muturi said he was the best leader to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta as he pledged to improve education standards, improve health care and tackle corruption.
He said he would remove the youth ministry and make all ministries a priority for the youth.
He said he would improve the northern part of the country by establishing a large livestock market in Isiolo county.
The speaker of the national assembly said his party would work with like-minded parties in the next general election.
Muturi has been adamant that Mount Kenya should field a presidential candidate in the next general election.
