After three buses transporting students were attacked by armed criminals, bandits shot one person in the Kerio Valley.
The buses carrying students from Tot Day Secondary School, Kerio Valley Secondary School, and Mogil Secondary School were ambushed by gunmen at Arror in Elgeyo-Marakwet County at Chesuman.
One of the bus drivers was slain, while six students and three professors were shot.
The prompt response of county health employees at Chesongoch, Tot, and Mogil health facilities saved more casualties.
Ambulances from Chesongoch and Tot rushed the injured to these hospitals for immediate care.
Two critically injured pupils and instructors are currently being treated at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret.
The critically injured children and instructors had had surgery and were in stable condition.
The driver's body was transported to the Tot Sub-County morgue while police officials in the region began a manhunt for bandits who were alleged to have flown into the neighboring Tiaty sub-county.
Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Governor Alex Tolgos condemned the Thursday nighttime incursion, directing security officers to track down and apprehend criminals causing devastation in the region.
"It's heartbreaking that criminals no longer spare innocent schoolchildren." "This is unprecedented and demonstrates that these bandits are ruthless killers," Governor Tolgos remarked.
Senator Murkomen questioned why National Police Reservists (NPRs) were not reinstalled in the region as promised by Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i.
"How long will we have to witness the murdering of our people before the government acts?" "This insanity must cease," Senator Murkomen remarked.
A Tot High School principal will be arrested for breaking public rules and letting the school bus stay on the road past 6.30 p.m. following a bandit attack in the Arror district, according to CS Matiang'i.
"The school bus attack in Tot should never have happened. The school was in violation of public policy. We will detain the principal, "CS." Fred Matiangi on the Thursday night bandit attack at Tot High School.
