Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka has joined the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, which has given Deputy President William Ruto a big boost in his presidential campaign.

Kenya Kwanza is a coalition formed by United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Deputy President William Ruto, Amani National Congress (ANC) Musalia Mudavadi, and Ford Kenya's Moses Wetangula.

On Wednesday, Lusaka, a prominent Luhya community leader, announced that he had joined Ford Kenya and would run for the Bungoma governor seat.

"I contacted my people, and they all felt I should return and finish what I started in Bungoma," Lusaka said.

Lusaka joining Ford Kenya is a significant boost for Kenya Kwanza Alliance since he is one of the most powerful Luhya community leaders.

This is also a setback for President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga, who had hoped that Lusaka would join the chorus of the Azimio La Umoja Movement like other top government officials.
