Given the scarcity of regular professions, it's no wonder that many young Kenyans are turning to the internet for work. The writing portion, notably academic writing, appears to be the most popular, as it offers speedy returns on investment.
If you're in it for the long haul, though, you've most likely dabbled in online advertisements, which you may monetize by showing alongside your content. It might be your website, blog, or even live video streaming.
Google's AdSense, which allows you to display advertisements on their own hosted goods as well as third-party platforms like self-hosted sites and applications, is the most well-known name in the web ad industry.
Blogger pages and, more commonly, monetized YouTube videos are among the hosted items. I assume you have any of these, and you presently have profits in your AdSense account that you want to cash out.
You Must Wait Before Withdrawing
If this is your first time withdrawing from AdSense, you should be aware that there are a few standards you must first complete. These are some of them:
1. You need verify your AdSense account
After you've hit a specific amount in your profits (address verification threshold), you'll be asked to verify your account. The currency used in your AdSense account determines the revenue threshold.
The barrier is ten dollars, euros, or pounds sterling {i.e. $10, €10, and £10}. Google sends you a physical mail with a PIN to the address you provided when you created the account. When you enter this PIN into AdSense, it confirms your account.
Note that the type of currency reflected in your AdSense account cannot be changed.
2. For Google to disburse your revenue, you must have surpassed your payment threshold
The currency used in your AdSense account also influences the revenue threshold. The barrier is $100 in US Dollars, €70 in Euros, and £60 in Great British Pounds.
3. You must have a payment method set up
AdSense will urge you to set up a payment method the first time you meet your payment threshold, as specified in the preceding section.
More information on all of these conditions may be found here.
Creating a Payment Method
Let's look at how you can obtain your money now that you've accomplished the first two stages. Google offers you the following payment alternatives, depending on your country (payment address):
- Checks
- Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)
- EFT via Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA)
- Wire Transfer
Western Union Quick Cash
You have three alternatives if you're in Kenya:
Checks, Wire Transfers, and Western Union Quick Cash. The fourth choice, Western Union Quick Cash, is the easiest and fastest way to obtain your money without difficulty and in the shortest amount of time.
Update: As of early 2021, Google will no longer accept payments via Western Union. As a result, you must choose an alternative payment method before this date.
Wire Transfer is our next best alternative now that Western Union is no longer available as a payment method. You'll need an account with a local bank that accepts international Swift transfers to use this approach.
Most large banks, such as KCB, NCBA, Equity, Co-operative, and others, support it, therefore it shouldn't be a problem. If you're unsure, contact your bank's customer service department to see if your existing account supports rapid transfers or if you'll need to create a new one.
Make an AdSense wire transfer to a Kenyan bank account.
- Select Manage Payment Methods from your AdSense Account > Menu > Payments
- Choose Add Payment Method, then Add New Wire Transfer Information
- Fill in the form with your National ID number, your names as they appear on your bank account, the complete name of your bank, its swift code, and your bank account number in the pop-up window that appears.
- Make this your primary payment method and keep the information.
To obtain the swift code and the right complete bank name, contact your bank. Otherwise, you may go to the Transferwise website for a complete list of Kenyan bank swift codes.
For example, the name of NCBA Bank should be NCBA BANK KENYA PLC, with the swift code CBAFKENXXXX.
Receiving Your Funds
If you've met your payment threshold, Google will now transmit your profits to your bank account automatically on the 21st of every month. If you make money on YouTube, your Chapter 3 Withholding YouTube Tax will be taken from your payment before it is sent.
However, beginning in March 2022, YouTube profits will no longer be merged with regular AdSense earnings. Once you achieve the payment threshold, a special YouTube payment account will be set up, and revenues for YouTube will be given out separately.
Google will send you an email if a payment is made to the address you provided when you set up your AdSense ac count.
This payment's receipt may be seen in your Payment Settings by navigating to: Menu > Payments > View Transactions, then clicking on the earning period to access the Automatic payment: Bank transfer to bank account...
The money, however, may not appear in your account immediately and may take up to 1-3 working days, depending on your bank. If it takes longer, get help from your bank.
In terms of costs and currency, the payment is made in Euros, and Google does not charge you any transfer fees, though your bank may. To avoid any unpleasant surprises, check with your bank.
In terms of currency, your bank may convert Euros to Kenya Shillings (KES) using their most recent exchange rates, depending on the type of account you have.
If you want to receive the payment in Euros, you'll need a Euro-based foreign currency account rather than a KES-based one. Check with your bank to see whether they offer this sort of account.
I believe that covers the most important aspects of receiving AdSense profits by wire transfer, but if you have any problems, please consult the Google support website or the wire transfer FAQ for assistance.
