Speaking at State House in Nairobi on Friday, Uhuru, who is also the leader of the Jubilee Party, said his party will join Raila Odinga's Azimio La Umoja to build a powerful alliance ahead of the August 9th election.

Uhuru went on to say that Raila Odinga was his preferred successor and that he could not support Deputy President William Ruto.

"And, because some were politicking while work was being done, we have stated that we want a coalition unit of like-minded parties to join Azimio."

To applause from the crowd, the President said, "We have the candidate, we have the resources, and the youth are with us."

The President bemoaned the fact that Ruto and his Jubilee Party confidants, especially from the Mount Kenya area, had put his development plan at a crossroads.

He also stated that he was prepared to aggressively advocate for Azimio la Umoja's triumph.

He went on to say that the alliance will prioritize the interests of young people.
