The number of government officials resigning to run for various political positions in the August general election is on the rise, with the IEBC deadline set to expire.
The latest to come out of government is Water and Sanitation Minister Sicily Kariuki, who is running for governor of Nyandarua County.
Kariuki, who announced her resignation on Wednesday morning at the Nairobi house Water House, said he would run for governor on a Jubilee party ticket.
Kariuki said she was proud of the major reforms she has implemented in the water ministry which he said will improve the lives of many Kenyans.
Kariuki thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for giving him the opportunity to serve Kenyans as caretaker minister.
Kariuki becomes the fourth minister to resign after Devolution Minister Charles Keter, Mining and Oil Minister John Munyes and East African Community Minister Adan Mohammed resigned on Tuesday.
Kariuki said she would work with leaders with similar vision at county and national levels to address security challenges in the county.
More government officials vying for political office in the next general election are expected to resign.
The appellate court yesterday ruled that government employees who are vying for political seats in the August general election this year should resign today.
