Some leaders of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, elected in Siaya County, have approved the nomination of East African parliamentary speaker Dr. Oburu Odinga to run for the county Senate seat.
At a ceremony attended by ODM party leaders led by party chairman John Mbadi at his Opoda home, the leaders backed the EALA MP, a former Bondo constituency MP, saying the seat was suitable for mature leaders.
The seat, which is currently held by Senator James Orengo, has attracted the attention of many ODM party politicians and the United Nations Declaration.
Meanwhile, some community leaders from Siaya county held an earlier meeting and called on Dr. Oburu to pull out of the fray and give way to a young leader.
The elders said Oburu, at his age, could not fulfill the duties of a Senator properly.
