The International Criminal Court (ICC) is expected to launch an investigation into possible war crimes in Ukraine, which is being interpreted to put Russian President Vladimir Putin in trouble. Our Correspondent's Report(continued).
The move comes after, on March 1, 2022, ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan stated that the tribunal would launch an investigation into possible Russian war crimes in Ukraine.
In a statement, Khan said investigative decisions regarding the situation in Ukraine would begin as soon as possible.
Khan said, after going through a preliminary investigation into the situation, he was satisfied that there were fundamental reasons to believe that all allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity had taken place in Ukraine in the events prior to the Russian invasion.
Khan added that in view of the recent escalation of hostilities, it is his intention that the investigation will also include any new criminal allegations under the jurisdiction of his office that will be made by any party to the conflict in any part of Ukraine.
