Former Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo has been barred from running for president in a run-off election after a court approved the election commission's decision.

His lawyer Claude Mentenon told AFP that there were more legal issues in Ivory Coast against him. The country's electoral commission removed him from the list of candidates because he was found guilty of a crime.

The president of the electoral commission, Ibrahime Coulibaly-Kuibiert, said in August that anyone found guilty of a crime would be removed from the list of candidates.

He made the announcement as he grew up announcing a new list of candidates. Four candidates, including former rebel leader Guillaume Soro, were removed from the list of presidential candidates.

Mr Gbagbo was acquitted in January 2019 after being charged with crimes against humanity in connection with the post-2010 violence.
