Paris St-Germain and Manchester United are set to sign Lionel Messi after the 33-year-old Argentine striker told Barcelona he wanted to leave - they are ready to pay him.

(Sport - in Spanish) A letter sent by the club on Tuesday stated that he wanted to use the clause in his contract to leave the club as a free agent immediately.

Barcelona were beaten 8-2 by German club Bayern in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on 16 August.

Barcelona however believe that the clause is out of date and that Messi's contract at the club will expire in 2021 with a clause of 700 million euros for any club wanting to buy him.
