Car owners have received temporary relief after the high court suspended the implementation of additional car insurance premiums that came into effect this month.
Judge James Makau also suspended the implementation of insurance companies' decision not to provide comprehensive compensation insurance for vehicles that were manufactured over 12 years ago or those valued at less than 600,000 shillings until the case was heard and decided.
Judge Makau said the suspension was crucial as the case filed by the human rights commission could be particularly successful considering the issues raised in the case.
Insurance companies said the increase was to cover the losses they have incurred in recent years at the comprehensive insurance level.
The companies claim that the amount of money claimed as compensation has exceeded the amount of money collected due to the increase in road accidents.
