In the midst of a crowded roadway, a truck with gas cylinders explodes.
On Sunday, February 13, traffic along the Mai Mahiu Road was halted after a truck with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders exploded near the Mutarakwa region.
In the blazing flames, at least seven automobiles were completely destroyed. Officers from the police department have yet to determine whether or not the event resulted in any casualties.
The reason for the explosion is yet unknown.
According to eyewitness reports, the fire from the flaming vehicle has moved through the shrubs and into residences near the road.
We are begging the county administration and other authorities to come and assist us in extinguishing this fire. Many houses are on fire, and some people and children are trapped inside, "a witness stated.
At the time of writing, there were no fire crews on the site. Motorists, on the other hand, have been warned to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
In recent years, the Mai-Mahiu stretch has been more prone to accidents. Four people were killed in a horrific traffic accident at Ntulele in November 2021 when four cars collided.
According to police personnel on the scene, a fast trailer lost control downhill and slammed head-on with a lorry before erupting into four lames.
Witnesses at the scene stated that numerous individuals were trapped in the flaming automobiles, as police hurried to the area to determine the cause of the accident and assess its severity.
A similar occurrence occurred in March 2015, when numerous automobiles were burned down in a multiple-car accident along the route. On the accident-prone route, an oil tanker slammed into five automobiles before erupting into flames.
The trailer lost control, according to witnesses, at a turn near the old Italian Catholic Church. The carnage prompted a traffic jam when the route was temporarily stopped to prevent loss of life and property damage.
