Charity Kaluki Ngilu, Governor of Kitui County, has asked Ukambani voters to boycott Deputy President William Ruto's campaign gatherings in the region.
Ngilu, speaking on Friday, accused the second in command of being rude to other leaders who do not back his presidential campaign, which she strongly denounced.
She said that Ruto has openly insulted his opponents every time he visits the Ukambani region for campaign rallies and that such behavior should not be tolerated.
She claimed that the region's electorates were free to attend Ruto's gatherings, but she advised them to spit on him and leave rallies if he began insulting his opponents in the region.
"Whoever hears this person (Ruto) delivering his insults in this region should simply spit on him and leave his rally," Ngilu said.
Ngilu, along with governors Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Alfred Mutua (Machakos), is campaigning for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's presidential ambitions in August.
