Moses Kuria, MP for Gatundu South, has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's wife, Mama Ida Odinga, to stop abusing churches.
Uhuru, addressing Sagana State Lodge on Wednesday, chastised several religious leaders, accusing them of being complicit in the country's corruption.
According to Uhuru, certain religious leaders have a habit of soliciting corrupt money from politicians and, in exchange, pushing misinformation produced by their financiers.
For her part, Mama Ida sparked a social media firestorm last month when she encouraged the government to shutter local churches, although she eventually apologized after receiving widespread condemnation.
Kuria remarked on social media on Friday that it is unethical for Uhuru and Mama Ida to criticize churches since they are solely accountable to God.
Assume the Church is incorrect; what qualifies earthly beings, such as political leaders, to sit in judgment?
"Leave the church alone." If they are wrong, they report it to God Almighty, and he does not require our assistance to punish them, "Kuria stated in a tweet.
