Deputy President William Ruto has spoken out on the unfolding conflict in Eastern Europe, in which Russia has invaded Ukraine.
Over the past week, nuclear-armed Russia has shelled major Ukrainian towns such as Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Mariupol, killing thousands of people, including innocent civilians.
Although Ruto did not explicitly address the crisis, he decried the alleged prejudiced and unjust treatment of African residents fleeing war-torn Ukraine.
Even in a scenario like Ukraine, there are still those who wish to practice bigotry. Who will be saved first? "It's mind-boggling that individuals can have the room to exercise bigotry even in a combat environment," he remarked.
Several organizations, notably the African Union and Kenya's UN Ambassador Martin Kimani, have also criticized the bigotry.
