Speaking to KNA by telephone, the FAO's deputy director general in the country, Hamisi Williams, said a locust attack was reported on Monday evening in the Mandera North area, after the insects arrived in the country from neighboring Ethiopia.
Hamisi said the invasion was caused by strong winds that transported the insects from southern Ethiopia to Mandera.
He confirmed that government officials and their FAO counterparts had been sent to the area to assess the situation.
In addition, he said (FAO) in collaboration with the government continues to spray drugs in the affected areas.
